Is this suitable for beginners?

Yes. This ikebana workshop is suitable for beginners and no previous experience is required.

What will we create?

Create a larger seasonal arrangement using upright branches, flowers of different sizes and greenery. The theme is "Early fall scene near a stream" - but please feel free to create your own arrangement using inspiration from your own season and location.

Are flowers included?

No. Please bring your own flowers and materials.

Do I need to bring a vase or container?

Yes. One flat-bottomed container — oval, rectangular or round. A larger container is recommended.

What style or school of ikebana is this?

Keika-Kazan School (桂花華山流 / Keika-Kazan-ryū) ikebana. Motoko Hattori is the third Iemoto (headmaster) of the school. It is a family lineage: her grandmother Bunga Tanuma I founded the school, her mother Bunga Tanuma II became the second Iemoto, and Motoko succeeded her as the third.

Do I need previous ikebana experience?

No - and if you don't feel comfortable making an arrangement (or you don't have the tools) you are welcome to join and just watch.

Do I need to bring a kenzan?

Yes bring 2-3 kenzans (medium to large size)
