Amsterdam-based floral artist Ariella Hill, the creative force behind RAE Blooms, has had a whirlwind time since we last caught up with her in June 2023. From working on dream projects—including an awe-inspiring contribution to the Paris Olympics—to deepening her lifelong love affair with flowers, Ariella’s journey has been one of growth, creativity, and new challenges. In this interview, she shares her favorite wedding season trends, what she loves about life in Amsterdam, and her big plans for 2025—including the grand opening of her new creative space.

How has your flower journey been since we last spoke in June 2023?
Full, vibrant and packed with lessons. I had such an amazing year working on projects that I couldn’t have dreamed up. It did of course come with its own set of new challenges but I also learnt a lot about myself. My relationship with flowers is forever getting deeper. They will always be my first love.
What are your wedding season faves right now?
Ohh I’m noticing a lot of fully wired bouquets are coming back. I was a little shocked at first but I think they are actually rather GREAT.
What drew you to start creating flower installations?
For me it feels like more freedom when creating something larger. You still of course focus on all the little details but it’s like telling a bigger story. Creating a new space.

Which is your favourite flower project to date? What makes it so special?
Such a hard question because I feel like each project brings up something different. I think last year working on the Olympics in Paris was pretty special. It was mainly plants and a lot of hard work but my team was amazing and I’m so proud of what we pulled off in such a small amount of time. It felt huge.
What do you love about living in Amsterdam?
BIKE! It’s probably a little cliche but biking around is definitely a favorite pastime here. It makes getting from A to B so much more enjoyable.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
To my younger self I would say dont be not as hard on yourself; compare less. It’s okay to also feel soft and valuable. It is not a weakness, you will soon see its strength.
What trends are you predicting for Spring 2025? I think lots more manipulation. Using flowers in different ways. Twisting stems. Tying them together. Very playful.

If you could only arrange with 2 flowers, which would they be? Amaranthus and Dancing lady orchids. Hard to get bored of either of them.
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
I’ve just moved into a new space, so I really want to do a lot more hosting there. Focus a lot more on what I really want to create, pushing my boundaries. It can be hard to stop and create truly for yourself when you’re often working for others and sometimes with guidelines. More free work.

Do you have any top tips for our readers?
