Experience the Magic of Kochia Season in Japan
Dr. Seuss landscapes come alive at Hitachi Seaside Park
You might know Hitachi Seaside Park for its baby blue nemophilia hills, but that’s not the only season you should be enjoying here. Get ready to step into a world fully reminiscent of childhood Dr. Seuss stories, where you’re surrounded by fluffy, vibrant Kochia balls, ready for all the frollicking and nostalgia you desire. Green balls are ready from July, but it’s October when the magical blooming transformation happens, as the parks Miharashi Hill bursts into a stunning red carpet of these quirky, round plants. It’s like walking through a field of living, breathing pom-poms—an experience that’s both surreal and utterly delightful. You will be the star of your own movie and your Instagram feed on these hills.
Top Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Day

- Wear comfortable shoes—you’ll want to wander the paved paths between the Kochia and cosmos flowers.
- Bring a camera (and a camera-savvy friend!) —this is Instagram heaven, with every angle offering a new pop of color!
- Pack a picnic and enjoy it in the park, surrounded by all the autumnal beauty.
