Azzmin from Braer Studio, Australia will be running an online workshop on Shimekazari.
Shimekazari is a traditional Japanese New Year’s decoration that symbolizes protection, good luck, and prosperity. It’s typically made of a braided rice straw rope called a shimenawa, and hung above a house’s entrance or on a Shinto shrine gate. Shimekazari is often decorated with other auspicious items, such as:
Shimekazari is usually put up before the end of the year and taken down on January 7 to be burned.
