Modern Ikebana: a New Wave in Floral Design
Botanical Book Club is hosted by Kimberly and Julia every third Sunday of the month.
Join us for Botanical Book Club on Sunday 20th October where we will be discussing “Modern Ikebana: A New Wave in Floral Design”.
Victoria Gaiger and Tom Loxley, distinguished editors of the award-winning “rakesprogress” magazine, have authored a captivating book on modern ikebana arrangements by a new generation of floral artists from Tokyo to New York, exploring their art and inspiration. “Modern Ikebana: A New Wave in Floral Design” introduces the history and development of Japanese floral art, explores “Punkebana,” and includes an illustrated glossary of flowers and plants. This book is a visual delight and an insightful exploration of contemporary floral design, complemented by stunning photography that captures the art form that has captivated artists for centuries.
Online Session:
Along with some discussion questions, we also invite you to make your own ikebana arrangement inspired by the book. Please come prepared with an image of your arrangement to share with the group during the session. Discussion questions to be shared on October 1st in advance of the meeting.
