Wabi Sabi – with Sandy Marker
Let’s practice ikebana together online – hosted with Riji qualified Sogetsu Ikebana teacher Sandy Marker.
In this session we are creating an arrangement depicting Wabi Sabi – beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” in nature. –
Wabi expresses simplicity, impermanence, flaws and imperfection.
Sabi displays the passage and effects of time.
Together one can appreciate the aging, flaws and beauty of the effects of time and imperfections’
What should the student prepare?
· Work can be created in any container and format
· Look for material that is simple and elegant while imperfect: for example, twisted branches or leaves, (the wabi aspect).
· Material to show the passage of time: leaves that are starting to turn for autumn, or flowers in bud form through to open flowers as seen on a camellia branch.
To help find material or inspiration: take a walk to notice the changes in plants, worn steps, rusted tin or wire, faded paint, moss covered stones, etc
